Introductory Clicker Workshop

Just because a trainer uses a clicker doesn't make him or her a clicker trainer. Learn the basics of how to properly use the clicker, and how to help your students better understand its use! This workshop will highlight some of the important pioneers of clicker training and their contributions to clicker best practices, as well as cover shaping, luring and capturing behaviors. It will also cover using the clicker to help address problem and behavior issues, including fear.

This workshop is geared towards instructors, although other club members are welcome to attend without dogs. There are six working spots for instructors with dogs. Note that the first hour will be devoted to lecture and human participation. Dogs must be crated at this time. (We will be using clickers with people, so if your dog is clicker-savvy it will be less stressful for your dog to be crated.) In keeping with clicker training philosophy, no choke chains, prong collars or electric collars are allowed.

The workshop will be presented by Teoti Anderson, CPDT-KA and Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner. A professional dog trainer for more than 18 years, Teoti is the author of four dog training books, one of the "Fab Five" trainer columnists for Modern Dog magazine, and has been featured in the New York Times, Southern Living, Dog Fancy and other national publications. A popular speaker at canine professional conferences throughout the United States and in Japan, Teoti is also the past president of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. She owns Pawsitive Results, LLC in Lexington, and shares her home with a Labrador Retriever, Papillon and Belgian Tervuren.
